Your project can't afford a ductwork problem.

On a commercial job, one bad sub can cascade into $50K+ in delays. These are the problems general contractors tell us they're tired of solving.

Ductwork that doesn't fit

Outsourced fabrication means miscommunication, wrong dimensions, and refab delays that push your schedule back weeks.

Subs who miss deadlines

When the mechanical rough-in date is locked and your sheet metal contractor doesn't show, every other trade gets backed up.

Change orders from poor coordination

When shop drawings aren't verified before fabrication, you end up paying twice — once for the mistake, once for the fix.

Our Process

From shop drawings to close-out.

Every project follows the same disciplined process — because on a commercial job, there's no room for improvisation.

01

Coordinate

We review your plans, produce shop drawings, and coordinate with your mechanical engineer before a single piece of metal is cut.

02

Fabricate

Custom ductwork is precision-built in our own shop — plasma cut, formed, and assembled to spec. No outsourcing, no middlemen.

03

Install

Our union crews arrive on schedule, coordinate with other trades on-site, and complete the installation to close-out standards.

What We Do

Full-service commercial sheet metal.

From CAD design through final installation — everything happens under one company, one schedule, one point of accountability.

Custom Ductwork Fabrication

We design and fabricate sheet metal ductwork in our 10,000+ sqft Lawrence shop. Plasma cutting, Pittsburgh lockforming, and precision bending — all under one roof. No outsourcing, no delays.

Commercial HVAC Installation

Full-service ductwork installation for new commercial construction. Our union crews coordinate with all trades to keep your project on schedule and within spec.

Industrial Ventilation Systems

Exhaust systems, make-up air units, and industrial ventilation for manufacturing, labs, and processing facilities. Designed to meet code and engineered for performance.

Sheet Metal Design & Engineering

CAD-based shop drawings and coordination. We work with your mechanical engineer to ensure every fitting, transition, and connection is right before fabrication begins.

Retrofit & Renovation

Upgrading or replacing HVAC ductwork in occupied buildings. We plan around your operations to minimize disruption while bringing your system up to current standards.

Maintenance & Service

Ongoing HVAC system maintenance, seasonal openings and closings, and emergency service for commercial and industrial clients across New England.

About Excel HVAC

30 years of building it right.

Excel HVAC was founded in 1996 by Brian Sughrue and David M. Clancy in Lawrence, Massachusetts. For 30 years, we've been the sheet metal contractor that general contractors call when the project is too important to risk on an unknown.

Our in-house fabrication shop is what sets us apart. While most sheet metal contractors outsource fabrication, we control every step — from CAD shop drawings to plasma cutting to Pittsburgh lockforming. That means tighter tolerances, faster turnaround, and ductwork that fits the first time.

We run union crews and take on public, private, and institutional projects across New England. Our project range is $500K to $2M — the sweet spot where we can give every job the attention it deserves.

What general contractors say about us.

4.6 stars on Google. But the reviews that matter most happen in job trailers and project meetings.

12+ year relationship
Excel HVAC has been our go-to sheet metal sub for 12+ years. Their in-house fabrication means we get ductwork on site 2–3 weeks faster than competitors who outsource. On a 14-month school renovation last year, they never missed a single coordination meeting or delivery date.

Zero punch list items
Shop drawings are dead accurate — first-time fit rate is probably 98%. That saves us change orders, rework, and arguments. On the Cambridge lab project, their custom exhaust ductwork passed every inspection without a single punch list item on the sheet metal scope.

Zero downtime
We had a 6-week window to replace the entire HVAC distribution in an occupied medical building. Excel fabricated everything in advance, staged it perfectly, and their crew worked nights and weekends to hit our deadline. Building never lost a day of operations.
